Congress Centre is one of Central London’s leading conference venues in the heart of the west end. As a venue, the management team are committed to making constant improvements to our environmental performance. We have already put together several measures and are continuously looking for new ways to improve. When purchasing new equipment, we’re mindful to ensure energy saving and re-usable elements within all associated products. Congress Centre currently carries out the following initiatives:
This is extremely important, and we recognise the need to recycle materials wherever possible. We are now using 100% recycled paper throughout all offices within our building. The venue and internal offices have reduced their waste from 5 bins to 3 bins each day, and we’re looking to reduce this even further. Congress Centre use recycled note pads, pencils, coasters, flipchart paper and pens for all meetings. Some examples of items we work hard to recycle are listed below:
- Glass bottles
- Compostable Cups
- Files (lever arch folders)
- Coloured paper
- Clear plastic pockets
- Toner cartridges
- Cardboard Boxes
We recognise the simple but powerful impact of using energy saving bulbs and have introduced this to all appropriate areas in the building.
We have LED lighting in our main conference space reducing our energy output. All our toilet facilities have Infra-Red censored LED lighting and over forty water-flush cisterns have been replaced with new reduced capacities. Automatic water taps are installed wherever possible in the toilet areas.
We have already invested in a High Efficiency (non-Atmospheric) Modular boiler. This will maximise efficiency of fuel gasses. This is more efficient and therefore consumes less gas than the standard atmospheric type.
We are ever mindful of switching all associated electrical equipment off when not in use and remind staff to participate in this.
We work with our suppliers to ensure that they’re always working to recognise and reduce the environmental impact of their products, packaging and transportation.
This includes locally sourced MSC accredited fish suppliers, Red Tractor and home counties sourced meat as well as fruit and veg from Covent Garden through local suppliers – reducing our carbon footprint.
Congress Centre promotes the use of locally sourced products for our events through our suppliers. We are working towards removing all single-use plastics from our catering and conference spaces.
This includes compostable cups, glass service containers rather than plastic, unbleached napkins and Vegware compostable materials. We ensure PLA products are sourced as much as possible.
Our Coffee is roasted and ground in Bermondsey our juice supplier Oranka ensures our carton packaging has been reduced by 85%. Our alcoholic beverages are distributed from within the M25. All our meat is sourced from within the UK.
